Cancer Education and Support: Digital Training for Community Health Workers
A free digital course, co-created with CARE, equips community health workers with videos, practical skills, and job aids to provide vital cancer education, prevention, and patient support.
Cancer is a leading cause of illness and death worldwide, with the burden rising fastest in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), which account for a large share of new cases.
As community health workers (CHWs) are often their community’s first point of contact for primary health care, they can play a key role in cancer prevention and support. However, many CHWs lack sufficient cancer-specific training.
To address this critical gap, we partnered with CARE to co-create a free digital course on cancer care and prevention.
Developed with input from CARE experts, oncology specialists from the Stanford Center for Health Education, the Philippine Department of Health, and barangay/community health workers (BHWs/CHWs), the course equips CHWs with mobile-friendly videos, field-ready job aids, and realistic scenarios to strengthen cancer education, prevention, and patient support.
