Myth: Covid-19 vaccine will be rushed and approved even before it has been thoroughly tested for safety

This rumor is fueled by the news that the Russian government approved a vaccine in August even before testing was complete. However, most countries in the world have strict rules about vaccine testing and these rules mean that a vaccine has to first be checked in thousands of people for safety and it has to be checked to make sure that it works – before it is approved. So although there is a need to discover a vaccine as quickly as possible, scientists in most countries are working to make sure that any Covid-19 vaccine is safe and effective.
