More children are surviving globally, but not enough are thriving. In South Africa, mortality rates for children under 5 have decreased. Still, many children are not reaching their full development potential, as evidenced by the high rates of stunting and poor educational outcomes.

The national Side-by-Side campaign in South Africa encourages stronger collaboration between healthcare workers and caregivers to improve children’s health and development, partly through their Road to Health Book that is issued to all new caregivers across the country. Together with the Side-by-Side Campaign, the National Department of Health, and other South African maternal child health stakeholders, we created a video series to support this campaign for healthy development.

The Road to Health videos are featured in the national Side-by-Side communications campaign and played in clinic waiting rooms to share critical health information with patients before their appointments.
