Supporting Vaccination: A Toolkit for Community Health Workers

Digital resources to support CHWs in expanding immunization understanding and uptake worldwide.

Community health workers (CHWs) play a vital role in promoting healthy behaviors and have enormous potential to contribute to global vaccination efforts. However, in the face of rampant misinformation and other barriers, CHWs often lack adequate support to increase vaccine confidence effectively. 

We worked with the Philani Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition Trust and One to One Children’s Fund in South Africa to facilitate focus group sessions with CHWs to understand their needs and what materials would be relevant and actionable in their day-to-day work. 

The toolkit contains mobile-friendly videos, audio files, and infographics to equip CHWs with the knowledge and strategies to increase vaccine understanding, acceptance, and uptake in their communities. While the toolkit specifically mentions COVID-19, the materials are also applicable to other immunization training needs.
